大航海時代に想いを馳せ「万国津梁の鐘」に刻まれた銘文の一節を手ぬぐいに染めました。私達はこの「万国津梁」に、沖縄がこれからも世界の架け橋となり、温かい心で人を迎える島であってほしいとの願いを込めました。 |
万国津梁
手ぬぐいに書かれている漢文は、1458年に琉球国王尚泰久の命によって造られた万国津梁の鐘の碑文です。「琉球国は南海の恵まれた地にあり、船を橋代わりして万国と往来、異国の文化や名産を集め、優れた人物も出て国は豊かになった」とあります。この万国津梁には「琉球国は世界の掛橋で人を温かく迎える」という意味があり、当時海外貿易を盛んに行なっていた王国の充実振りを生き生きと描いていると、古くから親しまれてきたのです。大航海時代に想いを馳せ、鐘の碑文をモチーフに手ぬぐいを作成しました。
The Chinese writing of the washcloth is an inscription of the bell of Bankoku-shinryo(万国津梁). This bell was built by the instruction of Yasuhisa Sho (the king of a Ryukyu kingdom) in 1458. It is being written for Ryukyu to trade with every country in the world in an amicable manner and to have developed. It is familiar with this inscription from of old in Okinawa, because the age when the overseas trade was
actively done is expressed well. We made this washcloth imagining Age of
