●ジュゴン
かつて、沖縄では ジュゴンは普通に見られる動物でした。しかし、ジュゴンが繁殖するスピード以上に人間が捕獲した為、その数が激減したようです。
日本のジュゴンは天然記念物の指定や、水産資源保護法で捕獲が禁止されるなどの保護策がとられていますが、漁網による混獲死亡事故は相変わらず続いています。
最近の調査では、日本で確認できたジュゴンは沖縄島沿岸域に限られており、おもに沖縄島 東海域の金武湾から国頭村安田にかけてのわずか70 Kmにも満たない海域に集中しています。本来なら、このような貴重な野生動物や、その生息域は手厚く保護されるべきですが、現在この生息域の中心に米軍基地がつくられようとしています。豊かな自然が次々と失われていくなかで、ジュゴンが安心して棲める環境は、私たち人間にとっても貴重な環境ではないでしょうか。

Dugong
The dugong was an animal usually seen in Okinawa before.
However, the number decreased sharply because man had captured it faster than the breeding speeds of the dugong.
The fatal accident with the net used by fishing has occurred as usual though the dugong in Japan is specified for the natural monument, and protected.
Dugong's present living region is only a Tokai region on the main Okinawa island.
U.S. bases try to be built in this sea area.
Cannot you say that the environment to be able to live the dugong's being relieved is a good environment for man?
