Dugong-trench
The dugong is a living thing that eats only seaweeds that grow in a shallow sea in the coast. These ten kinds of seaweeds are found in the sea in Okinawa.
When eating, the dugong puts the forefoot at the bottom of the sea; after that, the subterranean stem in bottom of the sea is dug up by the mouth
and it advances while eating. Therefore, there is a meandering ditch in the infinite form in the place where the dugong ate.
The seaweeds alga place on the Okinawa island has extended to the east coast, and the dugong trench was confirmed to the vicinity of the place where the dugong
was witnessed.
However, the seaweeds alga place in Okinawa decreases because of the reclamation of the beach and the sand outflow according to the development of land.
It is necessary to maintain this seaweeds alga place so that the dugong in Okinawa may survive.
